Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
You've got some questions - that's only natural. If these don't give you the answers you're looking for, send me an email.
I'm already doing X, can I do Ultimate Couch to 5K as well?
No. The design around the Ultimate Couch to 5K is that this is the single fitness program you are doing. Some days may be easier, some more difficult. But it was not designed to be paired with other programs.
Pushing a day in favor of playing a sport or doing other physical activity is fine.
Is the Ultimate Couch to 5K right for me?
Always consult your physician before beginning any exercise program. Get in touch and a PDF version can be shared with your physician so they can assess and guide you.
This is a generic program with the ability to adjust it as necessary to your capabilities. However, it was not designed for you. Let me repeat that - it was not designed for you. If you have underlying health considerations, injuries, or are concerned about your health - speak with your physician to understand what is the best course of action for you.
I don't want to do the lifting, can I still do Ultimate Couch to 5K?
You can, but your results will suffer and without the strength base, you may face similar issues to other running programs regarding injury or hitting a plateau.
Strength training is something we all need to embrace. Beyond the obvious physical benefit if being stronger, it provides numerous cognitive and quality of life benefits - especially in old age.
Who are you? Why should I trust you?
I'm just a regular person. Not a doctor. Not a physiotherapist. Not a personal trainer.
I made The Ultimate Couch to 5K because because I love learning about these topics on my own and after starting HowToFixShinSplints.com I realized that this was desperately needed. The information that lead to this program comes from training manuals, world renowned strength and track coaches, modern sports science research, biology and exercise physiology textbooks, and much more. The program is updated on a consistent basis to include new and improved methods.
